The Street Fighter Blog interviews Rey Jimenez

The Street Fighter Blog was honored to interview Rey Jimenez, Associate Producer at Capcom about the upcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Without further due i present you the full interview :

-Thank you Rey For giving us this great opportunity. First Can you tell us a bit abt yourself and what you do at Capcom

I am an Associate Producer here at Capcom Entertainment. In a nutshell, I manage the production of titles produced by external development studios.

- How did you guys decide to make a remake of ssf2t and why not for example didn't you choose sf1 or sf3?

We wanted to choose a version that would be the most popular amongst a wide base of players. Almost all gamers, (whether they are hardcore, casual, or old school) have fond memories of playing SFII games. We wanted to pick a version that most gamers could relate to. Super Turbo was chosen specifically because the die-hard still play that game and it’s regarded as one of, if not the best, games of the SFII series.

- Why did you guys choose udon to be the company to redraw the whole game?

They have a passion of the SF universe and they are talented artists. Since Capcom already has a close relationship with them, they were the obvious choice for the company to create the art for the game. Just to clarify though, animators are drawing the frames for the game while Udon is providing the look of the characters as well as drawing the backgrounds, endings, and portraits.

- At what stage are you right now in the making of the game?

We are in the home stretch. We’re basically closing out all the bugs that came up in the open beta and a few other open issues.

- A lot of fans are afraid that the game might slip to 2009 what can you tell them?

We’re on track to release the game this year and barring any unforeseen catastrophic event, that should not be changing.

- Are you guys worried that the game might suffer in sales due to sf4 getting released in few months?

Not at all. While it’s not a good idea to be right next to it in terms of release, I think we have a good enough separation between the two. Both games appeal to wide-audiences, but the hunger for old school SF (with a new twist) and the next step in SF gaming are equally as large.

- Will sf hd support adding extra characters or stages via dlc?

Unfortunately, extra character and stages are not a possibility within the scope of the game. As you are well aware, we are using basically the same gameplay code from the old version of Super Turbo. This does not allow the addition of extra stages and characters.

- Will you guys be releasing some kind of making of videos prior to the release of the game like what you did with the now very successful bc rearmed?

We will be working on that very same item in the next few weeks. Stay tuned to www.capcom-unity.com as we’ll most likely be premiering a lot of the videos there.

- Will there be any tutorial videos to help new comers who are unfamiliar with the series?

That’s one of the subjects we want to cover.

- Do you consider the beta that was released a couple months ago as successful as you guys wanted it to be?

On the level where the beta revealed problems with the code (what a beta is for), it was a huge success. There were issues found in the retail environment that we might not have found in traditional testing. In that respect, it was a huge success. I realize that it might not have provided the best experience for our testers, for which I apologize, but it will all help the final game be a better product.

- In what aspect did the final game benefited from the beta?

There were many issues with networking that got a lot of the help from the beta. We used the beta as a test bed to roll out new tech on our side and the beta identified what we were doing right and what needed to be adjusted.

- A lot of fans have been asking if the characters will have their original colors selectable?

Yes, the original colors will be selectable in Remix and Classic modes.

- In terms of storyline will the character endings now tie in to the street fighter 4 storyline? can we expect to see viper or abel in one of the super turbo characters endings?

We didn’t want to change anything that was core to the SFII storyline, so no, SF4 characters will not be in the endings. You may see a new twist to the endings, but nothing that will turn the SF universe on its head.

- And finally the question that is in all of our minds: When will you guys announce a release date?

You should be hearing a release date fairly shortly. Sorry, that’s about as specific as I can get. PR would have my head on a stick if I announced a release date.

On behalf on the street fighter blog i thank you Rey for your precious time.

I hope you guys enjoyed the read ;)

Hadoken!
