Famitsu.com shows you the SF4 tournament mode as well as some Characters custom taunts

famitsu.com has the first exclusive pictures of the tournament mode, a  mode that will be part of the free downloadable Championship edition expansion pack. Unfortunately the article is in Japanese and i am still looking for someone to translate it for us.

I addition to the tournament mode, famitsu has also revealed some pictures of the custom taunts that you can unlock within the game.

I will update this post with a translated version of the famitsu article as soon as i get it

EDIT: Here is an exclusive translation from the awesome Tom Mills:

Street Fighter IV post-release update super-evolution

Post-release title update

The fighting game Street Fighter IV will be realeased on 2nd February 2009 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The fact that the post-release update will allow tournament-style online battles and the exciting Championship mode has been made clear. Now we will give details on Championship mode and the game's hidden items will be introduced.

Addition of Championship mode

With Street Fighter IV's online battles, you can specify various conditions and the game will search for suitable opponents. The expansion of the online battle features makes it possible to have tournaments and this is what Championship mode is all about. If you participate in Championship mode, you will automatically join the battle and have fun in the tournament.

Participation in Championship mode it not just done through the competition lobby but also while playing Arcade mode since you can use "Arcade Standby". You can also enter online Championship mode rankings and upload match replay data to the server. With the replay data, you can watch other players and high level play to polish your skills.

Acquiring the game's hidden items

Clearing Street Fighter IV's various modes will unlock all sorts of hidden items. Apart from the things introduced here, you can also gain online battle titles and various other things also exist. Now we will introduce these hidden items, the costume colour and the appeal (taunt/personal action - TM).

Colour and appeal combine to customise your characters

On the character select screen, after selecting the character you want to use, the colour, appeal (taunt) and the victory comment can be customised. There aren't many colours or appeals initially available but clearing game modes will increase the amount you can use.

Hidden character(s)

The main 16 characters from the arcade version are initially selectable. There is also Gouki, Gouken, the boss character Seth and extra characters added to the home version, so you have 6 characters that weren't playable in the arcade version and they are hidden at first.
NOTE - It doesn't specifically state the stuff about the arcade version, just the 6 characters thing, which is weird since there are 7 unlockable characters, so I interpretted this as meaning 6 characters plus Gouki, who was playable in the arcade.
The conditions to unlock them are the same as the colours and appeals; clearing the game will increase the number of unlocked hidden characters.
