Voice cast announcements & more Character Select!

Hello everyone!
Aah, the most exciting part of development on SSF4 is approaching fast, and the office is becoming a whirlwind of activity. I've mentioned this numerous times on the SF4 blog as well, but we've got staff doing their very best to make this a fantastic game. Moreover, in order for them to keep peace of mind and be able to work well, there are staff members supporting them from behind the scenes. All these people are the pride and joy that make the game. Development goes on!

Now, the last blog entry where I showed those Character Select illustration was surprisingly popular. I'm so happy! And to all you people who voiced your opinions on Dee Jay's portraits, thank you so much!

... The Character Select screen is literally taking shape as we speak. Actually, you might think we were making a decision between those two choices, but it seems our lead designer Gauge has really embraced everyone's comments, and provided a new and improved version!! (H-hey!)

...well, I guess you might not be able to tell by just a glance...

Here are the two versions from last time. It looks pretty much the same, but he really went and redrew it?

Ah, well, it looks great, so I'm not mad. I guess complaining would be pointless.

Well, while we're at it, let's take a look at the creation process for the core character Ryu's Character Select portrait.

First, the screenshot is retouched.

Pretty much everything except his dougi is totally redrawn!

Breathe some life into him, and it's perfect!

With a little help of SF4's Art Directer, Ikeno, you can see the determination in his eyes, and the fighting spirit in his fists - and with that Ryu is born.

One more thing!
The Characters page at the official site will not just display the new characters, but little by little all 25 returning characters will be added! Also, although they only show pictures and character profiles right now, we're arranging some sample voice clips as well, so stay tuned!

By the way... the voice samples are still a ways off, but aren't you curious about who's playing Dee Jay, Hawk and Juri?

They already did a little talking in the New Characters trailer, so I think maybe some of you already recognized the voices!

You might know Eri Kitamura as Yatterman-1 in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.
As Yatterman-1, you'd hear the energetic young hero say things like...
"I'm counting on you, Yatter-Wan!" 「頼むぞ、ヤッターワン！」
"The origin of Mecha!" 「メカの素だ！」
"He he, how about that!" 「へへっ、どんなもんだい！」

But as Juri...
"I'll sting you! Down to the bone!" 「食ってやるよ！骨までなぁ！」
"Hey there... I'll kill you!" 「そ～ら･･･殺しちゃうよ！」
"Oh you're worthless, I can't feel a thing" 「おまえじゃぁぜんぜんダメ、感じない」

That's scary... real scary! It's like a completely different Kitamura!

She has plenty of other quotes that are exciting in every sense of the word, so that's something to look forward to!!

OK, so today I've talked a lot about the Character Select illustrations as well as announced the new additions to the voice cast!

Hey, next friday is Dee Jay's birthday! Hm, I guess I was a little early in presenting his Character Select portrait... On a related note, next Thursday is El Fuerte's birthday. And with that, I bid you farewell until next week.

Capcom still hasn't decided on an Arcade version of Super Street Fighter IV

Kotaku has just posted an interesting tibdit saying that they have been told from Capcom that no decision has been made yet as wether to bring SSF4 to arcdes or not, however if they decide to do so it should a very easy process.

From Kotaku: "Capcom's Seth Killian said that if Super Street Fighter IV was released to arcades, an arcade machine could be updated by simply installing new software and changing the cabinet's art work. "

I for one would like an arcade port just for the sake of the scene.

Street Fighter IV to have its own PSN Home space starting tomorrow

The Official sony playstaion blog has revealed today that a dedicated Street Fighter IV home spave will launch tomorrow as well as 25 SF themed home outfits.

From the announcement: " That’s right – Tekken 6 and Street Fighter IV are getting their own dedicated game spaces. These game spaces come loaded with Tekken 6 and Street Fighter IV-related content and will serve as the perfect hubs for all of you bare-knuckled brawlers andPlayStation 3 pugilists that are looking for areas to organize game launching tournaments (or just looking for a new opponent to quickly pummel). To top it all off, 25 Street Fighter IV alternate costumes will also be released tomorrow, so head to the Mall to guile up and then get to swinging. "

I guess i have a new reason to check Psn home again.

*T. Hawk and Dee Jay

-Feelings when their inclusion was decided (continued)

Okada:
When we were making the console version, our schedule limited us to including only 6 new characters. We were having talks about who we should include, and Mr. Ono said "Why don't we listen to our fans at events like Comicon, and base our decision on that?". Since the game was in many ways a new version of Street Fighter II, of course it made sense to include characters from the original SF2, but we were also determined to listen to the opinions of our fans. Based on the results from various questionnaires and such, Cammy and Fei Long made the cut, but these two guys didn't (laughs).

-You're being quite frank...

Okada:
Yeah, unfortunately they just didn't seem all that popular. But they were still always on our list of characters that we wanted to include in the game. We always felt like, "OK, we'll include them if we can", and even created the basic framework for the two, but eventually we had to create the more popular characters, so in the end they didn't make it.

Tsukamoto:
As a result, we couldn't really call it a complete reunion.

-So the development staff are all feeling "finally!", now, huh?

Okada:
Yeah, we must've made those two guys feel awfully lonely, so it's nice to finally be able to invite them this time.

*Regarding T. Hawk

-First of all, tell us a little about T. Hawk

Well, T. Hawk's image has always been that he's simply strong and proud of it. From the start he was neither a technical fighter nor an expert martial artist, and he will still be the type of character who overcomes all obstacles with brute strength. "He's huge!", "he's tough!", "he's strong!", you know, that sort of feeling.

He was the largest character in the SF2 series, and as a big guy he will still rely on strength more than cunning.

-Simply put, he's strong

Okada:
Naturally, if that's all there is to him, he wouldn't be much fun, so he will still have the same mid-air moves that he had in Super SF2. A huge guy assaulting you with sudden attacks, that's what T. Hawk is all about.

Tsukamoto:
He's big, but he moves fast.

Okada:
Well, he's big and he occasionally moves fast. He's not really a quick character per se. Basically, he's a big character, so the opponent are always under pressure. But as they're trying to keep away from him, T. Hawk will suddenly swoop down on the opponent and throw them. That sudden shift of speed is important too.

-When implementing T. Hawk in the game, were there any particular difficulties?

Okada:
Actually, the biggest problem we had was that all the characters might not be able to even jump over him. T. Hawk is really tall!

Tsukamoto:
The trajectory of the jumps are different for all characters, you know. The shorter characters were critical.

Okada:
Ah, well, it did turn out fine in the end, but just barely. The dev team were pretty horrified at first though. "He's too big!"

-So at that time, you didn't consider changing T. Hawk's size to make him fit in the game better?

Okada:
Not really. T. Hawk's size is essential to the character, so that was never really even discussed. T. Hawk should be huge. Bigger than Zangief, even. That's his defining characteristic. His size makes him an easier target, but I think that's fine. Well, you should always try not to get hit, of course (laughs). But in T. Hawk's case, he can take a hit and still be fine, because he can still retaliate in a big way. It's important to have that link between appearance and gameplay, so that's why we didn't even think of changing things.

-What can you tell us about his animations?

Okada:
Actually, T. Hawk was my main character, back in the ST days. His animations are a bit peculiar, and I always thought the way he holds his thumbs in the palm of his hand in his neutral stance was really cute. It looks like something a baby would do.

-So you liked that enough to make him your main character? (laughs)

Okada:
No, well, I liked it, but that wasn't the only thing I liked about him. (laughs) I would really love to ask the original developers this, because I really don't know if this was their intention, but when I look at T. Hawk, a lot of his moves remind me of a baseball umpire. His crouching MP looks like a "safe" gesture, and his crouching HP looks like "out". Even now his movements kinda make me laugh. He was a cool looking character who did all those ridiculous poses with a completely straight face. If I could land his "safe", his Super Combo was pretty much guaranteed, so I would often jump in and try to hit with the "safe".

Tsukamoto:
Sounds like a "safe" tactic. (laughs)

Okada:
Whenever it worked, the opponent would be "out". (laughs) Anyway, those types of poses are definitely unique to T. Hawk. So this time, we're doing our best to preserve that same uniqueness that he had back then. The "safe" is still in.

Tsukamoto:
"Out" too.

Okada:
"Out" as well, yeah. In any event, this goofy awesomeness is T. Hawk's trademark, so we won't tamper with it. The designers are hard at work creating moves and motions for T. Hawk that will fit in with the world of SF4, but needless to say it's all based on memories of that golden era, and the most important thing is to maintain that feeling. Well, this goes for all the characters, really.

-What about presentation? It seems his eagle is back as well

Okada:
Animating animals is a completely different beast from dealing with humans, because their movement has to be really perfect, or else it will look really bad. So when we decided to put the eagle in the game, the animation designers sighed heavily. They were like "Aah, we're doing this after all, huh... well, guess we need to get to work".

Tsukamoto:
There were times when we'd raise the tension, going "Eagle! Eagle!", but the designers know that a lot of expected from them, and it seems like they were well prepared.

Okada:
Well, I guess there's a limit to how much you can make. Personally, I'd love to see more animals, but of course, the eagle is the most important. It's really part of T. Hawk's character.

-What's the current status of T. Hawk's development?

Okada:
T. Hawk has a clearly defined concept of "dynamic movement", so there was no need to reinvent the wheel, and new moves such as the Focus Attack will feel natural as well. In Street Fighter IV, the screen feels a little more cramped than in the old games. Actually, there are times when the camera will pull back slightly, so in reality it's not that cramped, but the default camera view is kind of zoomed-in to show the characters better. With a guy as big as T. Hawk, this becomes kind of a double-edged sword. His attacks are far-reaching, but it's easy for him to get hit as well, and that balance is something we're paying a lot of attention to. Visually, he's coming along just fine.

-"Reinventing the wheel", are you referring to the balance of new and old moves?

Okada:
Right. For example, we've changed his Condor Spire to the point where you could call it a new move, but many of T. Hawk's moves imitates the movement of birds, and that's something we're careful to maintain.

*Regarding Dee Jay

-Next, tell us about Dee Jay

Okada:
Dee Jay is an all-round character, but in a different way from Ryu or Ken. He's got a projectile, anti-air, rush attack, a button mash move... He's got a sliding kick too. Dee Jay has been established as a character who's got all bases covered with a balanced mix of special moves, but being a charge character he's a little tricky. But more than that, we want him to be a refreshing mix of light-hearted and technical, and just a rhythmical, fun to play character.

-So he's the exact opposite of T. Hawk, then

Okada:
Yes. He's kind of hit and run, finding a rhythm to your land attacks. For example, finding a flow like "I'll do a jump in HK and crouching MK, if that connects I'll do a hadouken", it's fun to come up with those kinds of attack patterns with Dee Jay, so I hope people will enjoy that.

-If you were to compare Dee Jay to any of the current characters, who would it be?

Okada:
Speaking in terms of other characters, I'd call him an "offensive Guile". They both have similar charge moves, but while Guile is the type of character who waits for his opponent to mess up before he attacks, Dee Jay is more likely to annoy his opponent and goad him into making mistakes through a constant barrage of attacks.

Tsukamoto:
And he wants to finish it off with a big move. So he has to stay on his opponent, the second he lets go, he's done for.

Okada:
Yeah, it's like the joystick will be in motion constantly. Talking about characters like Guile and Dee Jay, you could say there are characters who want the opponent to jump in, versus characters who want to jump in.

Tsukamoto:
Guile definitely wants the opponent to jump in at him.

Okada:
And Dee Jay wants to jump in himself. He's got good moves against jumping too, though, his sliding kick is a great anti-air and even lets him move forward while keeping his charge. Dee Jay is synonymous with that sliding kick, and of course it will be as strong as ever this time too.

-Sounds like he'll be a tough opponent for some characters, huh

Okada:
From the opponent's point of view, Dee Jay's onslaught might feel unstoppable. But in reality, if you know what you are doing, you'll be able to stop him. When playing against Dee Jay, you don't want him to get too close. In other words, you have to keep him at bay, somehow. It's important to take charge and not get stuck in your opponent's rhythm.

-By the way, you can't talk about Dee Jay without mentioning that huge smile of his

Okada:
Dee Jay is really showing a lot of expression this time. It's difficult to make a character like him look serious, but he has plenty of different facial expressions. The designers went through both pain and joy creating them, so I hope you'll enjoy seeing Dee Jay make a variety of different faces. The 3D graphics give room for a lot more expressiveness in his movement too, so the designers are doing their best to create a lot of flashy dance moves and such for him.

-Dee Jay was an interesting character to look at even back in SSF2, wasn't he?

Okada:
Putting the gameplay aside and speaking from a strictly aesthetic point of view, Dee Jay represented some of the best pixel art in SSF2. He was pretty much the pinnacle of pixel art at that time.

Tsukamoto:
The first time I saw SSF2, I was pretty surprised. "Oh, I get it! MAXIMUM!". (laughs) "It reads no matter which side he's on!" I thought it was brilliant. Back then, you were constrained to symmetrical designs, since you had to be able to mirror the sprites. So having a 'B' or something on a character's back was no good, because it would look strange when mirrored. Seeing the word MAXIMUM along his long legs must've brought a great sense of accomplishment. It's a cool sounding word, and the idea worked great.

-Well then, please tell us about any troubles you had implementing Dee Jay

Okada:
Well, we mentioned before that he's kind of an "offensive Guile", but simply making him like that makes him a little too strong. He has so many tools, and he's so fun to play, so the difficult part was to think about the balance with other characters, without getting rid of what makes him fun in the first place. You might remember Dee Jay being a powerful character, and I think the most important thing is to tweak him without him losing that aspect. Simply making someone weak isn't difficult.

-How are you feeling about the characters right now?

Okada:
Well, there's still a lot of fine tuning to be made, but they seem to be shaping up to be capable characters, so that's good. We've been thinking about both Dee Jay and T. Hawk ever since we had to leave them out of the last game, so I feel we've had time for a lot of preparation. So I'd say it feels pretty good.

-A message to all the fans of T. Hawk and Dee Jay, please

Okada:
These two are definitely minor characters. And for just that reason, I really hope that everyone who thought "I'm not surprised they didn't make it" will give these characters a try. When I use them now, I think both of them are more fun than ever. To all of you who mained one of these characters like I did back in the day, and to all of you who have waited so long, I just want to say "finally they're back"! I hope you'll enjoy the return of your favourite character. I know I am!

We're not out to disappoint anyone, but we're finally brining these characters back, while spicing them up with what makes SF4 special. We're mixing things up a little, in a good way; creating new, fun takes on these two characters. I really want you to check out these guys' new flashy Ultra Combos for yourselves, and I hope you'll be happy with how the two turn out, so please look forward to playing them!

Kotaku talks to Seth Killian abt ssf4

The folks at kotaku posted a short article/interview with Seth killian discussing some SSF4 features. Nothing is really new in the article a part from a confirmation that studio 4C will not be the studio to do the anime prologues and endings, which comes as a good news seeing the horrible job they have done.

Character Select unveiling

Hello everyone!
It's really starting to getting cold these days, huh... Halloween is coming up, so I'm looking forward to some pumpkin-based food and sweets. I could really go for some fried oyster!

Anyway, regarding the new characters in SSF4, we've already announced the trio of Dee Jay, Hawk and Juri, but there'll be more! Ono said something like "we want to include 8 characters", in interviews, after all. B-but, can we pull that off?

Speaking of adding characters, the team of designers are currently hard at work drawing new Character Select illustrations! So today, hot off the presses, is Dee Jay's Character Select portrait!

The Character Select illustrations aren't drawn by hand completely from scratch, they're in fact retouched screenshots of the actual game models.

The first step is to find poses that would fit the Character Select screen, and take lots and lots of shots!

Candidate shots like these ones are then handed in to the chief designer. The chief designer then goes through the pictures until he has a revelation, like "This one! This is it!", and then he goes to work on painting over the chosen picture.

This is the picture that was chosen with a little divine help. And in the end, it evolved into these two pictures! Wait, two?

Oh, they're different! They look almost the same, but they really are different!!

So... what's going on? For some reason, there are now two illustrations of Dee Jay. (Actually, the reason is that the final picture hasn't been decided on yet.) Which one do you guys prefer??

So using this process, Character Select illustrations are created for all the characters. And while I'm at it, I thought I'd show the illustrations for T. Hawk and Juri. Here they are!

And right now, as I'm writing this, the team is working diligently on the rest of the portraits!! For those guys and girls you don't know about yet, too... He he he. They will be announced successively, so stay tuned!!

Super Street Fighter IV dated and priced ?

Gamestop has just put up a preorder page for Super Street Fighter IV. According to them SSF4 will come out the 23rd of March 2010 for the price of $39.99

Take this with a big fat grain of salt since gamestop is known to put holder release dates until the the publisher announces the official release date.

We contacted Capcom for confirmation. I will update the post as soon more info becomes available.

An anime suggestion to Capcom Part 2: The do's and don't's list

As a follow up to my previous article in which I made suggestions to capcom on how to handle a new SF anime series, I present you the second part of this mini series of articles.

The second part is basically a list of things that Capcom should include in the anime as well as the things that must not be in it.

The Do’s List:

· · The anime must follow the cannon to some extent with of course original ideas from the writers.

· Hire some good writers who have done some great animes before.

· The anime must be produced by a great anime studio such as Madhouse or production IG

· The characters must have the same design as they do in the games, no more Street Fighter 2 V stunt.

· The fight scenes and animation should be similar if possible to the GREAT Street Fighter II Animated movie.

· The anime should start from the beginning of the game series story wise, therefore starting with SF alpha or SF1 is nearly a must.

· The Street Fighter series has a deep story and each character has a detailed backup story, use it to get as many episodes as possible.

· Start the series with an ova or movie to reach more audiences.

· Respect the character’s personalities. Ryu was never the happy fun guy like he was in sf2 V

· Use Masahiko nakahira mangas (sf alpha, sakura ganbaru and SF3 ryu final) as reference to the anime as well as Udon comics.

· Hire Masahiko nakahira and the Udon guys to be advisers for the new Series

· Characters must use their powers and it shouldn’t take ryu 15mn to shoot a hadoken like in the SF2 V series.

· Use the music from the games. The use of character theme music in sfIV anime promo vids by studio 4C made those videos EPIC

· The story must have serious moments, tragic events, and comic relief (by Dan and rufus of course)

· Include all characters from the games into the anime series in some way (some charcatres will probably have only a cameo or 2 but they still need to show up)

· Make mangas and comics based on the new anime series as a cross promotional thing. Make toys, shirts, and games based on it to introduce the Sf games to those who never played it yet are watching the anime. And advertise the anime in the games so those who don’t watch anime yet play the game will be introduced to the anime (maybe include ethe first episode or trailer in one of the games video gallery)

The Don’t’s list:

· Don’t make it a Saturday morning cartoon like the horrible SF usa cartoons

· Don’t alter the characters design. Making Ryu look like joe higashi in sf2 v was a bad move

· Don’t start the series from Street Fighter 2 or worse: Street Fighter IV. Start with Alpha and go forward. This will help the viewers know the characters and love as they see them age from youngling to great warriors (remember all anime who introduced their charcatrs and had them age with series are considered GREAT and classic anime, DBZ, naruto and others)

· Do not aim the series mainly at kids, Street Fighter is a franchise loved by all ages and mostly adults.

· Don’t use a cheap studio for the animation. Studio 4c did a decent job with the ties that bind movie and the anime promos but also did a terrible horrible job with the anime prologues and endings in SF4.

· Don't make the Street Fighters or Fight scenes overpowered and DBZ in nature. With very limited exception, we should see all the strikes and attacks and they should hit heavy without destroying a town in the process. A busted bit of concrete here, a kick through a wooden door there, but don't make the world seem like it's made out of paper mache. Ever punch a slab of concrete? Try it sometime and see how that goes for you. Not even a real martial artist can punch a hole in a concrete road. I want my SF'ers strong but real world strong.

Remember my long wishful post where i made a suggestion to capcom on how to make a Street Fighter anime series ? Well, capcom replied to the post and thread in Capcom unity by saying the following:

Sven: "I will pass your feedback and suggestions to licensing (who is responsible for such things). "

Thank you capcom for listening to your fans!

I suggest, dear blog readers, to let your voices heard in that same thread located here, and show capcom that a lot of fans want this anime series to happen and not only your old friendly neighborhood Strugler.

Shizowa san latest blog post

Friday means a lot of things, one of them is a new Shizowa san's blog post. In today's post the infamous SSF4 producer does not reveal anything new except that anew SF4 national tournament is in prepartion. But for kicks and giggles, here is a full translation fo the post done by the amazing "jigsaw" from SRK forums:

What did you think of the first Developer Blog on Tuesday? The main staff writing the blog shout at eachother almost every day, so I'm reading it with a smile on my face as well. From here on out, the blog will undoubtedly offer deep and interesting contents!

Well, as you know if you've seen the Ryu vs. Ken trailer or the illustrations of Dee Jay and the others, in addition to the "sumi-e touch", the artwork is now also presented in a new elaborate pencil sketch style. The staff just got used to calling it things like "saka-saka touch"(Jig's note: how the hell would you translate Japanese onomatopoeia? lol), but it never actually received an official name. Any suggestions? Please tell us!

With that said, today we're presenting "saka-saka touch" (name pending) renderings of Ryu, Ken and Sagat!!

OK, so here's the real topic for today.
Everyone, are you losing your edge?

In the blog following SBO, I wrote "with SBO over, it really feels like the summer of SF4, the summer of fighting games, is coming to an end". Considering that, and the announcement of SSF4 being released only on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, I can't really complain that everyone's motivation is dropping a bit.

Neither me, Ono, the development staff or anyone else here could stand it... so we're having a tournament!

Once again, an Official Capcom National Tournament.

... well, it's a little premature. We're actually still hammering out the details, so I can't say more, but please wait just a little longer for a proper announcement! We're still deciding on dates, rules, and a name for the tournament. Of course, special custom titles will be on the line as usual.

So everyone, it's a little too early to lose motivation just yet! Stay tuned for more information!

Famitsu interviews Ono san: few hints are dropped

Famitsu website has recently published a long interview with Ono san talking about everything Super Street Fighter IV. The interview is very informative and has quite a few hints. Adriasang.com were kind enough to translate the highlights of the interview.

"Throughout the interview, Ono stressed that Super is being designed to include as many features as fans want to see included. Asked for specifics, he mentioned expanded online play. The staff is conducting tests on how to replicate the excitement of arcade tournaments such as Enterbrain's recent Tougeki tournament. He actually joke that if they do too good here, players might end up not going to arcades.

If Capcom is trying to replicate the feel of being an arcade, does this mean we'll get live online match viewing? This is something Ono said that he'd like to do. Additionally, he'd like to strengthen the game's replay viewer feature which was added with Championship Mode.

While select members of the Western press were able to play Super behind closed doors at the Tokyo Game Show, it appears that the game was early. Development had just recently started, and Ono even joked that the development staff might have been surprised to hear the Spring release date in Famitsu.

Ono also shared a few additional hints on new characters. He previously suggested that Juri would not be alone as an original character for the game. Here, he added that the other newcomers may make use of surprising fighting styles. He recalled Viper's inclusion for the original SFIV and the varying fan opinions that resulted. Now, however, everyone has gotten used to the character. He said to expect something similar here -- a character at the borderline of what fans might accept.

SFIV's home release was accompanied by an anime DVD as a pre-order bonus. Stock ran out on that quickly, Ono recalled. For Super, he said that while nothing has been set, he'd like to do something similar.

On the topic of download contents, Ono confirmed that the game will offer from the start the same arranged costumes that gradually appeared for SFIV. Those who already bought the costumes will not have to purchase them again. He also hinted that more costume arrangements are on the way.

PlayStaton Home avatar items clothing could also be on the way as well. Ono said that he's hoping to have discussions with the various first parties.

One area where Ono would not touch upon is the new design for the Ultra Combo gauge. The site told Ono that there appears to be a "meter" in the gauge. "There's no meter," replied Ono. The site then asked if the green thing between the "Ultra" and "Combo" words is the letter "I." "Eh? You can also look at it like that?" replied Ono."

Pretty interested huh? i am very excited to see that they are considering a new SSF4 Anime movie.

A suggestion to Capcom: Here is how to make a Street Fighter Anime Series. Part 1: The Story arcs

With the successful release of Street Fighter IV last year, the Street Fighter franchise is without a doubt celebrating its second coming. This celebration, however, feels shallow without a new Street Fighter Anime TV series to ride the train of hype and success that SF4 has initiated.

While Shizowa san hinted at several occasion that a Street Fighter Anime series is very possible, we have yet to see or hear an announcement. I am not sure if Capcom is uncertain if it should go for a new anime series or if Capcom cannot find the right ideas to make such series.

In an effort to help Capcom make this decision and to show them that a Street Fighter anime tv series can rock, I have made my outline of what a Street Fighter anime series should consist of:

Option1:

Pilot episode: consists of the final match of the first street fighter tournament, Ryu vs Sagat a match that ends with Ryu tapping into the satsui no hado for the first time

Arc1 (10 to 20 epsiodes): Arc one should introduce Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma and gives us a look at who ryu is, how he came in gouken’s custody and the history of Gouken and Akuma without getting too much into the dark hado storyline, the arc should end with the death of gouken.

Arc 2: (20 to 30 episodes): Arc 2 should be the adaptation of Street Fighter alpha 2 game. The story can be completely based on Masahiko nakahira’s Street Fighter Zero manga. The second arc should introduce shadaloo and bison and also have Ryu and Ken meet chun-li ans Charlie for the first time. The secnd arc should end with Ryu fighting akuma for the first time with ryu loosing.

1st Movie: Sakura Ganbaru: A fun hour and a half anime adaptation of the great Sakura Ganbaru manga by masahiko nakahira, will be a great first SF series movie in theatres in Japan.

Arc 3: (20 to 30 episodes): Arc 3 should adapt the story of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Now that Sakura is famous due to sakura ganbaru she can be part of the Cast. Guile also gets introduced in this arc. The story should mainly focus on the threat shadaloo is presenting. Arc 3 should end with the death of Charlie Nash and the destruction of the psycho drive.

2^nd Theatrical movie: Can be anything really. A Gouken movie, where it shows how the rivalry between the 2 brothers has started. Or a shadaloo backup story could be interesting. A filler Story focusing on Ryu and co can work too.

Arc 4: Street Fighter II (40 episodes) The introduction of most of the sf2 cast sould happen in this arc where Ryu and Ken travel the wrld to perfect their skills so they can avenge their master and also prepare for the second Street Fighter tournament where Akuma promises he will show up, and where sagat promised he will retake his title. The arc ends with the end of the SF2 tournament and bison’s apparent demise.

3^rd Movie: Story takes place during the sf2 arc. Can be a filler action packed story

Arc 5: Street Fighter IV (30 to 40 episodes): The adaptation of the sf4 and super street fighter iv storyline with the introduction of Seth and SIN. Arc 5 also features the return of Gouken.

Arc 6: Street Fighter III (20 episodes): Introduces the sf3 cast and the illuminati organization. Alex joins the rest of the heroes as a regular cast. Ends with Ryu going on a training journey with Oro.

4^th Movie: takes place during Arc 6, and focuses on Ryu training with Oro to finally defeat Akuma.

Arc 7: Street Fighter III 3^rd strike plus iluminati vs Shadaloo war (30 episodes): Ryu thinks he is ready to finally confront Akuma. Alex is ready to defeat gill and Shadaloo is back in business and is trying to take what was theirs before illuminati showed up. Arc 7 should end with the final battle between Ryu and Akuma.

Arc 7 will be the finale of the series.

Option2:

While Option 1 sounds perfect to the Street Fighter fan in me, one must admit it might not be commercially possible as studios often like to test their product before ordering sh1t load of episodes from it. So as some people pointed out in the comments section, a shorter series might be more feasible and more smart to do rather than go for the 100+ eps series (although that will kick ass for us SF fans). because of that, here is my Option 2 for Capcom:

- Introduction: could be either a movie or ova or a 5 episodes deal introducing Ryu, Sagat, Ken, gouken and akuma. The story can focuse on the Street Fighter 1 Tournament or just start with the final match of Ryu vs Sagat and then explain the dark hado and the history of Akuma and Gouken. Gouken should die at the end.

-Series 1: Street Fighter Alpha: 12 - 15 episodes telling the story of the SF alpha days. the mini series should condense the events of SF alpha 2 and alpha 3 in one long story. Shadaloo must be introduced in this arc as well as chun-li, Charlie, Guile and the mostof the alpha 2 and 3 roster. The arc should end with Charlie's death.

- Series 2: Street Fighter II: another 12 to 15 epidoes mini series focusing on Ryu and Ken travelling the world to prepare for the Street Fighter 2 tournament which should start in the last 5 episodes of the arc. The arc ends with Shadaloo's apparent destruction

- Series 3: Street Fighter IV: a 10 to 12 episodes mini series adapting the story of SF4 and SSF4.

- Series 4: Street Fighter 3 (not sure if capcom will go for this one really) Can be from a 5 to 12 episodes series or can be first an OVA that if successful can become a series. Story should focus on Ryu training with Oro as well as alex's story. Masahiko nakahira's Ryu final can be adapted for this series.

In between the arcs, movies and ovas can be produced such as the Sakura Ganbaru movie i suggested earlier.

So as you can see, Street Fighter can be a LOOOONG running series that rivals the great anime such as dragon ball z, naruto, bleach and the likes.

Option 2 also sounds great, since usually Anime series with that number of episodes have usually more quality and style than unnecessary long tv series.

A successful running SF anime series will be an unlimited source of money to capcom, since licensing group can make toys, games, books, shoes or even panties (the sky is the limit). An anime series will also introduce the sf franchise to a lot of people who were not very familiar with it and therefore people will buy more SF games. It’s a win win situation where the game helps the anime and the anime helps the game.

Shizowa says SSF4 arcade is still possible

in her latest blog post, and in response to the angry arcade players who were shocked to hear SSF4 is exclusive to ps3 and xbox 360, Shizowa san (pictured above) reassured that an Arcade version of the upcoming Street Fighter IV iteration is not totally out of the question.

Shizowa: " It's not the case that there's definitely not a chance for an arcade version. One thing I absolutely want to get across is, we most definitely haven't given up on the arcade Street Fighter IV. "

While arcades dies a long time ago in my country and most of the world, i still want SSF4 to come out on arcades so the game can get played by top japanes players and be a titles in wold wide competitions like SBO.

IGN did an amazing job in their new massive interview with Ono san where he reveals quite a few AWESOME news.

In addition to confirming additional stages, new rivaleries and lot more, Ono san made me as happy as a school girl by saying that that SSF4 will have brand new anime prologues and endings with much higher quality than the one in SF4 (WOOHOOOOOOOOOOO)

And if you are like me sick of the indestructible song, this is what ono said to ign:

IGN: Will there be a new theme song for Super IV?

Ono: Yeah you don't have to worry about being indestructible anymore, haha. We're fixing that. Speaking of lessons learned, when looking at something like this for the first time your assumptions might be that this is some kind of downloadable pack or something, and to be honest with you that's not going to be. There's just too much going on with this release and too much content.

Also From the Interview: "

IGN: Now as the progression of Street Fighter carried on in the past – Street Fighter II, Turbo, Super – we'd see the same characters return but with different moves added in. You'd see tweaked sets, or new moves like Ryu's half circle fireball… have you explored any of that for Super IV as well for the existing characters?

Ono: I'll put it to you this way. People have come to expect that over the years as that's something we like to do, and while I can't say anything right now I can assure you that we certainly have no intentions of betraying that expectation; although I can't get into specifics at this moment."

New openings and endings, the street fighter team are “man enough” to admit the quality wasn’t there the first time around, and has promised they will be improved.

Different or changed rival/pre-match dialog.

Along with new Ultras and tweaks, older characters will be getting new specials or normals.

Indestructible will be gone. Ono has “learned his lesson”

As the final boss, people who hate Seth, will hate him even more now. He will be harder but not, “unfair hard.”

New stages will certainly be added, but certain older ones will receive new elements or details.

No form of World Tour mode from Alpha 3 planned anytime soon. If enough people request it for a sequel, it's possible.

SSF4 Dev Blog updated with DeeJay pic and Trailer

The official SSF4 Dev blog was updated today with Deejay profile and the trailer that was posted on the sf blog 2 days ago. No new stage nor a new mode was shown as Shizowa hinted at :-(

However Dee jay looks like he will be kicking some major ass in Super Street Fighter 4, not only he looks sweet but he got a larger than life "max out" fireball that will sure be difficult to jump on.

You heard that right folks! Shizowa san has revealed today in the new re-designed Super Street Fighter Blog, that this coming Thursday (oct 1st) a new trailer will show the new characters (including Dee jay) in Motion as well as the revelation of a new stage, a new song (plz ;let it be good and let it replace indestructible) as well as a new mode.

Shizowa san als revealed that we will be getting development update every Tuesday and Friday(instead of just Friday) starting from this week, although as an exception for this week Friday's update which will occur Thursday.

I for one is hoping for a story heavy mode a la blazblue. What about you guys?

New Super Street Fighter IV Trailer + Ono san Interview

Folks, the hype is through the roof! Not we only we get to see a brand new trailer of Super Street Fighter IV but also an interview from Ono san that reveals that the game will be released for home console as early as the beginning of spring (yesssss)

From the article: " While Capcom had initially considered making SSFIV's content a download pack of some kind, it became clear that just tacking the new content onto the old game wasn't going to be possible. As a result, SSFIV will be released as a standalone disc that won't be sold at full price. But, the producer explained, before you get rid of your SFIV disc, be advised that SSFIV will offer current SFIV owners a bonus that Capcom isn't revealing at this time. "

The french video games blog www.jv247.com has posted the first screens of Super Street Fighter IV showing T-hawk in all his native american glory, the logo of the game, and a first look at Juri, a tae kwon do character that, if the rumors are true, is an evil lady who works for Seth.

The website also states, that the first trailer showing the game will be shown TODAY at 6pm France Time in the online video game show "game evening".

A new mystery capcom website emerged with a teaser trailer that shows what might be Ryu and Ken (maybe?) shadows fighting each other:

While the teaser trailer is only seconds long, we learn 2 things:

1- An announcement date which is tomorrow at 5pm Japan time (8am GMT)

2- The game subtitle might be the "new warrior" as that is what the teaser website's name.

looks like we will finally get to see Super Street Fighter IV tomorrow morning!

An image from Gamepro germanu surfaced today in it we see Ono San and a gamepro journalist, but behind them is the first EVER screen of Super Street Fighter IV and it shows t-hawk in his fighting stance. Enjoy

If you look close enough, the banner behind the journalist reveals the title of the game, and while only partially visible you can clearly see a big "S" written with the super street fighter 2 font.

Also, after a Capcom unity twitter follower asked capcom if we will hear any new Street Fighter news over the week-end, this is the reply he got:

"no. but mebbe monday"

Pretty exciting isn't it folks. And by the way T-hawk looks awesome!!!

SFIV dash info leaks again ? UPDATED

According to several posters on srk and other boards, this is some of the stuffs that will be included in SFIV Dash:

- 2 New Characters: Hakan, and Arab grappler, and Juri an asian girl who works for Seth

- the leaked roster from last week is real

- Guile has Sonic Hurricane

- The game's name is Super Street Fighter IV

- Everyone has two Ultras at once. No selection. Commands don't overlap.

- One super, two ultras. Except Sakura, who has Shinkuu Hadoken back for 2 and 2. All 3S characters have all three of their supers, except one is super and two are ultra.

- Rufus can cancel-break the last hit of Spectacle Romance, or the launch kick of Space Opera Symphony.

- Guy has his chains

- Dudley now has ten target combos, up from nine in 3S.

- Cody is the only character with an Alpha Counter. Yes, he has the knife.

- Makoto has her super as Tanden Renki. May be possible to activate with an Ultra charged to commence the rape time.

- Gen gets a new air Ultra. He still doesn't hagve his chains back at this point.

- Juri's top may bear a vague resemblance to Shiki, with a bit of Hinata hair.

- Expect the return of the many familiar supers, and a few new ones like Metsu
Shoryuken. Return of Kikosho, Sonic Hurricane, Denjin(Gouken), Tiger Cannon.

- Expect sick names like Breathless, Yoga Shangri-La, Psycho Punisher and Demon Armageddon.

- Expect a lot of air activated ultras, i.e; Siberian Blizzard, Gief's ****ing air 720. Yes, you read that correctly.

- Return of the bonus stage."

The game will apparently be revealed tomorrow at TGS.

This makes me very excited. Bring on Super Street Fighter IV!!!!!

UPDATE: According to today's shizowa's blog post, we will have to wait just a little bit longer for the announcement. She also stressed out that we need to keep an eye on the blog and check frequently (which means this could happen before next Friday where she usually updates the dev blog). Few people are now speculating that the announcement is due on October 1st which is next thursday. I will keep you guys updated on the matter as soon as i get more information.

The annoucement was made by shizowa's secretary in which she said: "as for a sequel we should wait a bit longer to hear abt it!

Rumor: Street Fighter IV Dash Characters revealed? UPDATED

Henaki, a trusted and old SRK user has posted a list of the alledged characters that will make it to Street Fighter IV dash. The list is as follow:

Returning from SF3: Ibuki, Makoto, and Dudley

Returning from SF2: DeeJay and T-Hawk

Returning from Alpha: Guy, Cody, and Adon

in addition to 2 completely new characters.

What do you guys make of this list? Street Fighter IV dash has not even been announced yet let alone what new characters are we getting. On the other hand Henaki has been on SRK since 2001 and i don't see why he would lie to a community he has been an active part of for 8 years.

Take this rumor with a grain of salt for now, time will prove if Henaki is trustworthy or not.

News about SF4 sequel this friday... but don't get too excited

in her Latest blog post over at the SFIV dev blog, shizowa san answered some more fan questions regarding all things Street Fighter IV. and right at the end before finisheng her post the SF4 producer has this to say:

"I won't be talking about sequels!I will talk about it next week... but I forbid you from getting too excited. "

what do you guys make of this? shizowa has been known to mislead people before (remember that she promised us news about sf4 sequel in SBO09 and then she let us down?). Friday is not far off i guess we can wait and see. But i must stress, just as Shizowa did, we must not get excited otherwise we might be let down again.

Other interesting to note points she made about Street Fighter Iv were translated by adriasang and are as follows:

An announcement will be made shortly regarding the release of a DVD for the recent Tougeki tournament.
There appears to be some talk internally about a second national tournament. Nothing is set yet, but Shiozawa says she thinks people will come to regret it if they stop training just because Tougeki is over.
Apparently there were some rumors that taunts make the CPU level go up. This is not the case.
Asked about a possible Wii version of the game, Shiozawa responds "At present, I don't think there are plans for that... probably." What is up with that "probably" at the end, Shiozawa? You trying to start something?
If you lost your play card and were wondering if there's something Capcom can do about it, Shiozawa says there isn't -- although, she adds that if she had powers like Rose, she probably could. She suggests sticking your card deep in your wallet next time.

Issue #8 came out last month and it marked the start of the tournament. but before we tackle the tournament itself, let's talk about an important moment, one that was unoticed by many readers: Ryu and Chun-li finally met each other for the first time.

what took you guys so long to bring these 2 iconic characters together

Matt Moylan says:

Well in the comics and even in the SF games, even though they are the heores of the properties Ryu and Chun-li's have never been too directly related.

Ryu's on a quest to conquer his inner demons (ie: to overcome the Dark Hadou withing him), avenge his master Gouken's death at the hands of Akuma, and also learn what it means to be a true warrior

meanwhile Chun-li is out to take down M.Bison and Shadaloo, not only because it's her job, but also because they are responsible for the death of her father

So, we played things down a bit with a simple handshake meeting but, this definitely won't be the last time the two cross paths

Can expect them to fight side by side in the near future ?

Quite possible in a future sereis yes

Let's talk about the tournament itself. Issue 8 provided us with 4 major fights: T-hawk vs Cammy, Dhalsim vs Dee Jay, Guile vs Blanka, and Ken vs Zangief. What can you tell us about some or all of these fights and what went behind the scenes at studio Udons regarding how these fights should go and wat moves needs to be portrayed

Matt Moylan says:

Well, as I've said before some matchups are set up to move the plot ahead and some are jsut characters we want to see square off!

T.Hawk and Cammy is a great matchup because they had recently become friends in our previous SFII series. when we showed this match the first time ina flash forward at the beginning of the series, it wasn't yet revealed that Cammy had regained her individuality. So it was a bit of a trick to keep fans guessing where we were going.

Dhalsim VS Deejay was short, but we also needed to establish hwo Dhalsim might throw a wrench in some of Bison's plans.

Guile VS Blanka is a match I really liked personally, since Blanka is one of my fav characters visually. UDON hasn't used him much, so I'm glad writer Ken Siu-Chong gave him one of the longer fights this issue. Too bad he lost though!

Then finally Ken VS Zangief, in a classic US VS Russia match. This matchup always works great between the smart-mouthed Ken and the easily angered Zangief.

As for which moves are used in each match, that's all the work of Ken Siu-Chong. He's the walking encyclopedia of SF moves, and even refers to them by name and buttons int he script. eg: Hadoken (QCF +P)

The Ken vs Zangied was one of my favourites as now we understand why in the Street Fighter IV game zangief says in his winning quote that he hates hadokens

As for Dhalsim, i am sure i am not the only one who is surprised to see him in an important role. Pretty much all other SF media, wether it anime or manga, protray Dhalsim as a secondary character with a single Cameo if at all.

I think he has always had a lot of untapped potential. In our story, Dhalsim has played a big part in both Ryu and Sagat's evolution as characters and as fighters. He's a great 'wise-man' type character, and probably belongs more on the level of Gouken & Gen than the regular fighters. Also his interest int eh tournament is purely to gain knowledge, not neccessarily to win, so he's unique in the competition.

While browsing some forums, i saw few people who were unhappy by the way Blanka and Deejay were portrayed in the comic since they did not get enough exposure. While i now it is impossible to flesh out every single Street Fighter Character, will these 2 sf2 characters apeear in the future of the series or was this the last time we are seeing them since udon will be tackling Street Fighter 3 next?

To be fair Deejay did get a bit of screen time in a short story where he fought Cammy/Killer Bee. But yes, of the original SFII cast they have had the least focus. However, we do hava plans for both of them in our next series. When we bring in the SF3 cast, we are defiitely not losing the SFII crew.

Street Fighter Legends: Chun-li #4 Review

This is it people, the fourth and final issue of the excellent Street Fighter Legends: chun-li is at hand. How does the story conclude? Is the miniseries still the favorite sf minisries to date in my book? Read and see.

Dorai, chun-li and Polin have discovered sagat’s plan to steal the Chinese statues and transport them by boat. The trio ambushes Sagat and his thugs in what I can call a great battle finale that proves Dorai (chun-li’s father) is no wimp. I can’t talk more about the story without spoiling the whole thing but know this. The final issue is a good conclusion to a solid miniseries that proves once more (just like the Sf main comic series) that Street Fighter can have a good story. A surprise cameo at the end will surely pleases the fans.

The art by Omar dogan in this issue is no different than the previous issues meaning it kicks major ass. Characters and backgrounds look as vivid as ever.

Overall, Street Fighter Legends: Chun-li is a great mini series, the story is what the crappy Legend of Chunli movie should have been. Great Storytelling, Awesome art, and breathtaking action certainly makes this book a great addition to the Udon’s Street Fighter Universe.

Udon is at its best! with the current SF2 Turbo series heating up as the SF2 tournament started, the Street Fighter Blog is pround to announce that we will be discussing the tournament as it progresses with Matt Moylan from udon. Well, now that we've had a lot of time to flesh out our universe and our version of the characters, for us the tournament is a chance to focus on what the Street Fighter games are about at their core - one on one fights where each fighter gets to show off their unique skills. Of course we have also tied the whole thing together with our main plots such as Chun-li and Guiles fight to bring down

Shadaloo, Cammy's personal struggles to find herself, and Ryu's inner battle against the darkness within him.

Speaking of Ryu, will we finally find out why Bison was shown interested in Ryu during the first issue of the Street Fighter Comics?

We've touched on some of Bison's interest in Ryu (in particular in the Dark Hadou energy as a power source) in the SFIV series. But again, Bison has other reasons to have his eye on Ryu which will become apparent soon enough.

now about the tournament itself, how did you guys decide on which character fights who ?

Well, partly it was fights and victories/losses that had to happen to move the story forward, and partly it's just characters we want to see fight each other! It'll be fun to see characters who are bitter enemies square off, or each ones who are close friends.

should we expect some shocking twists in terms of the results of the matches?

well looking at the matches you may think it's each to figure out the winners, but a few fan favourites are going to get knocked out earlier that youd expect!

Street Fighter II Turbo #8 Review: Let the awesomeness begin!

It has finally happened! The big tournament, the most important event in the Street Fighter mythos, has just begun in the latest Street Fighter II Turbo issue. With the 16 characters from the hit Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo game participating in this glorious event, expect tons of fights, surprises, and WTF moments that will sure make you remember the SF2 Turbo comics Maxi series.

The issue starts with the 16 fighters riding a boat to Shadaloo secret base where the tournament will be help away from the eyes of the world governments and military. The issue does not take long to explain the rules of the tournament which will be a single elimination event and the three last standing contestants will fight against the shadaloo kings (Vega, Balrog, and Sagat) and whoever wins against the shadaloo lords will get ot fight bison in a 1 vs, 2vs 1or 3 vs one final match.

The current Tier is as follow:

I am also taking this opportunity to announce that from now until Issue #9 comes out we will be discussing the fights that have occurred in the tournaments and the different matchups as well as predicting the outcome of the fights to come, and I am counting on you guys to discuss with in the comments section.

The issue also marks the first time where Ryu meets Chun-li (could you believe they haven’t met yet???) in an interesting panel that was cleverly felt ignored. Dhalsim is also looking to be an important character in the tournament which might make things a bit more interesting

The fights are gorgeous looking and while they are bit short, a little bird told me that the fights will be getting longer as we get less people left on the tournament.

Chamba did a fantastic job again, and his Ryu is as badass as ever. Although the backgrounds can be a bit empty, the action does make up for it, and if you have been reading the comic you will know that when drawn by chamba, the action looks like its popping out of an anime or movie.

And as bonus to this buffet of awesome, street Fighter II Turbo #8 includes a backup story of the fan favourite young ninja Ibuki. The story is a fun ride drawn by Omar dogan and it makes Ibuki more lovable than she already is.

Street Fighter fans around the globe, this without a doubt is the best most exciting issue of the Street Fighter comics we have seen in years, and this is just the beginning of the tournament. I really did not want the issue to end and was mad to realize I have to wait for a whole month before getting the next issue. I salute udon for the great job they did in this issue in both writing and drawing.

And just in case you did not get this issue yet I tell you this: “are you insane? GO get it NOW”

Street Fighter IV #3 Comic Review

Street fighter IV #3 is the third and before last issue of the Street Fighter IV miniseries that takes place at the same timeline as the ongoing breathtaking Street Fighter II tournament.

The story left of in the last issue with C.viper, the SIN double agent, was trying to kidnap Sakura and take her to seth who collects the best fighters around the world to use them as a test in his evil experiments. Even though she was helped by El fuerte and Dan, sakura was no match for the high tech assassin who succeeded in retrieving both Sakura and Dan who showed some satsui no Hado reading in the SIN computers. The same computers and machinery that made Akuma sense a disturbance in the Hado and set him on a trip to find the source of this Satsui No hado. Abel also makes an important appearance as he finally faces off against Seth who will reveal to him the answers the amnesic fighter was seeking for years.

The story is good but not great. While it had a great premise the Street Fighter IV mini series does suffer from the lack of the important characters that are busy squaring off at the SF2 tournament, an event that will make sure Ryu will not face Seth and chun-li will not fight viper. I really do think if SF4 was left until the conclusion of the sf2 tournament, just as in the game, it would have been better and would have been a solid mini series like Sf legends: chun-li that certainly surprised us all of how good it turned out to be. While I am still loving the SF4 miniseries I couldn’t help but sense the feeling of a tie in to the game rather than a story that has an impact on the Udon sf mythos.

As far as the art goes however, Joe Ng ROCKS. His art style feels like the second coming of Alvin lee (the brillian artist behind the sf II maxi series).

Don’t get me wrong, Street Fighter IV #3 is an enjoyable issue and offers an important answer in the Ryu/Bison interest, however the story feels a bit rushed and lacks the soul and depth the rest of SF comics have. But with Akuma fighting Seth in the final issue (as hinted by the ad at the end of the issue) thing might get a lot better when Street Fighter IV #4 hits the street in October.

The Shizowa Cup: A prelude To SBO

SBO 09 will kick off this friday. The sf4 tournament event will feature the greatest SF players around the world such as Daigo and Iyo.Not only that, shizowa san has promised us a big announcement by Ono san during the event (sf4 dash anyone?). But all this will happen friday, however there is another event you should be excited about that will take place this thursday: The Shizowa Cup.

Named after the famous Shizowa Natsuki (sf4 producer and sf4 dev blog owner), the shizowa cup will feature a 5vs5 team tournament with 16 kick ass teams participating. The tournament is officialy sponsored by Capcom.

Street Fighter themed table for Zen pinball!

Zen pinball is one of the best (if not the best) pinball game ever made. The game was a hit on PSN and really surprised everyone with its realistic physics and addictive gameplay.

The game creator, studio Zen, has announced over the playstation blog that a Street Fighter themed pinball table will be released for the game via DLC sometimes this month:

"To give you a little idea of what makes this table so unique, we’ve loaded it with all the iconic Street Fighter II characters that revolutionized the fighting genre, from Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile to Sagat, Evil Ryu, Vega, Balrog and even M. Bison! The locations, missions, and even the tempo of the game capture the feel and look of the Street Fighter brand, so if you’re a fan of the franchise you’ll need to check this table out.

Right now we have a tentative release date scheduled for sometime in August 2009, so stay tuned to this blog, or check out the official ZEN Pinball site for more details. "

At the official Street Fighter IV blog, Shizowa san has posted a new Questions and Answers set answering fans questions about all kind of Street Fighter related topics.

Azrael for SRK was kind enough to translate most of the post with a promise to translate the rest soon.

Q．How do I unlock Fei Long?
A．If you beat the game with Abel, you can unlock Fei Long!

Q．I was thinking of reserving the PC version of SF4, but its out of stock. What should I do?
A．Really sorry about that... The pre-orders really exceeded our expectations. We have been scrambling to make more copies.

Q．I'll bet even Capcom didn't think that it would sell so well this quickly! LOL
A．...Gulp!

Q．It would be nice to have an option where the CPU characters used the alternate costumes...
A．To be honest with you, to try and do that now would be very difficult...!

Q．There are certain attacks which have attributes which break Saving Attack.
　I'd like to know what the conditions for those break attributes are.
A．To answer this, I've gotta interview the project leader!
　　He was asleep from a long day of hard work, but I woke him up to get his answer.
Its a bit long, but this is him giving you a straightforward answer!
　　"Although the current setup has its pros and cons,
　　the break attributes were something we introduced in the latter stages of development.
　　SA allows you to both defend and attack, and since it can be cancelled into a forward or back dash
　　its a pretty potent ability for the person using it. (That's one of its charms.)
　　The battle concept for SF4 is controlling the ground, similar to SF2.
　　If you jump you have to land at some point, so this is a fight where you have to use footsies well, push
　　your opponent into the corner, pressure with chip damage and throws, and look for the smallest opening.
　　Especially at mid range, you have to be really careful. And the ease of use and effectiveness of SA really
threw off the game balance.
　　Characters with a good in-close game who could rush down were way too strong.
　　On wakeup, you could repeatedly threaten the opponent with a Lvl 3 SA.
　　So we went through a trial and error adjustment period, and this was the best system that we could come up with!"

Q．Ken's eyes are blue this time.
　 They've been brown up until now.
Why are they blue all of a sudden?
A．That's a question about the little details, so even I don't know that stuff.
　　But after talking with the main designer of the arcade version Ikeno, and the design team,
　　the result was "Well, this time we'll go with blue!"
　　But you'll notice that his eyes are brown on the character select screen. So really, I think he's
wearing color contact lenses!

Q．I think it was a good idea to include characters from the Alpha series even if its not time accurate.
　 The timeline from SFI to SFIII has gotten all mixed up anyway, so this was a good call.
A．...Yeah, this was up for discussion a lot.
　 The most obvious example is, of course, Sakura.
　 In the anime, Chun-Li calls her the "Eternal Schoolgirl", but in SFIV we didn't really elaborate on it.
　 Just, Sakura's character is "The female highschooler who chases after Ryu", so we decided to stick
with that design rather than change her.

Q．Personally, I'm concerned about Vega (Claw).
　 He's definitely very weak, I think anyone can see that.
　 It'd be nice if he could get at least one unbeatable attack. Is this possible?
A．Ah, Vega...in the loketests he was a bit too strong, and in development we constantly tweaked him,
never quite finding a right balance.
　 Controlling him can be tricky, and compared to other characters it can be difficult to bring out his
full power, but I believe that if you hang in there and you'll be able to do well with him!
(Az's Note: In other words, NO TWEAK FOR YOU! ...Also, I dunno what she means about the loketests, I was
at a few of them and we never thought of Vega as strong, not that I remember at least.)

Q．Thank you for your reply. I'll be back to ask questions again, so please continue this blog!

Q．Would it be possible to make a SFIV TV anime from the special DVD, plus the arcade mode openings and endings,
　 and adding some new content in as well?
A．This is something we really want to do, but actually getting it on air there's a lot of hurdles to overcome..

Q．Have you cleared everything in Trial Mode yet?
A．I can't finish it!!!

Q．Akuma has always had poor vitality, to the point where you can say his armor is like paper.
Is this just for game balance, or are some story elements involved as well? Like, if you master the Satsui No Hadou,
it causes your life force to drain away or something...
A．Well, I've never heard of that, but if that were true it would certainly add some depth to the series!
　 Truthfully, because Akuma has enormous damage output capability, we reduced his vitality to balance him out.

Q．If you (Shiozawa) were a playable character, what would be your style, win/lose quotes, super and ultra?
A．What's up with this question?!
　 But since it was asked, I have to answer!
　 For fighting style, it would have to be TKD, which I studied.
　 My taunt would be "Low-life..."
　 My win quote would be "As expected"
　 My losing quote would be "..." (pouting)
　 Super combo...give them a back kick against the wall, finish it off with a blow to the neck/head.
　 Ultra...I want at least a 10-hit combo. For the finisher, I'd slam down on their back from mid-air with my heels!
　

Q．Does the PC version have options for the sound test?
A．No, its the same as the console versions, just options for volume level.

Q．Looking at the father (Gouken) and the brother (Akuma), Gouken's daughter would be pretty bulldog-ish, wouldn't she?
She'd probably be named Kyoko (I think referring to some female Japanese wrestler).
A．Not Kyoko! I think she'd be a beautiful, graceful lady. Her name might be something like..."Violet"!

Q．Who is drawing the pictures you sometimes post up here?
A．Those are all from the "Street Fighter Art Book" I mentioned here before,
　 so there are many various artists!

Q．If you can't make it a new character, how about turning DJ into a capoiera character?
　 He's black, he dances, he's passionate, he fits the capoiera perfectly.
　 ...Maybe it doesn't work after all?
A．If DJ learned capoiera...he'd probably become good friends with Eddy!
　 Capoiera might be a nice top-off for DJ's rhythm!

Q．If there are any new costumes coming (?), the Kamen Rider look would be great for Vega
A．You had a good idea for me, but unfortunately I'm kinda lost...sorry.
　 The Kamen genre definitely exists, huh? I want to see it!

Q．Maybe its kinda late, but what are the conditions to fight Gouken in the arcade.
A．I see, the details were never released, were they! Well then, let's spill em.
　 First, the game needs to be beaten with Akuma.
　 Next, beat the game with any character you've already beaten the game with, fulfilling the following conditions.
　 Gouken will jump in, and if you beat him you will be able to use him.
　　【Conditions】
　 No Continues/Cannot Lose Even 1 Round/Win With Designated Number of Perfects
　（Ex: 3 Round Match, At Least Twice） Super of Ultra Finish
　（Ex: 3 Round Match, At Least Five Times）Get the First Attack

A．Yeah, when we think about new characters, one of the important points is "Can they compete with Ryu and the rest?"
　 Even if the character is fine on their own, they have to fit into the world of Street Fighter.
　 That's the biggest challenge in making characters.

Q．In the next iteration of IV, give Abel an air throw!
　 You can call it "Flying Seiyaaaaaa!"
A．I laughed.
　 You gave it a nice name and all, but the last half is just him screaming...
　 But even if it is just a joke, this is kind of Abel-like, so it's pretty good.

Q．１： Can SFIV be found in arcades overseas?
　 I'm going to Guam this summer vacation, and not only do I want to play overseas,
　 But I want to go to local game shops and arcades as well.
　 It'd be nice to challenge people overseas in SFIV.
　２：Can the English voice actors speak Japanese?
　 In the home version I set the voice options to English, and when Ryu says "Hadouken",
"Shoryuken", "Tatsumakisenpyuukyaku" etc I was surprised that the prounciation was pretty good.
　 For "The Movie", it was all "Hadu--ken", "Sho--ruken", "Tatsumakizenmya---gu" and like that.
　３：Is it not possible to use the console version for arcade events?
　 There are various events for the arcade version, but
　 you can't do an update or something to include the console version?
　 You can but won't, or you can't - please tell me which it is.
A．１：There aren't really any arcades as there are in Japan in America.
　 Even if there is an arcade, its the type where you stand while playing (like pinball).
　 Unfortunately, they didn't get the arcade release of SFIV.
　２：There were voice actors who could speak Japanese,
　 but basically, most of them couldn't.
　 However, during the English recording session, sometimes they were instructed that "it sounds too much like Japanese,
so make your prounciation worse". Interesting, isn't it?
　３：Yeah...an update would be really difficult.
　 If we could do it, it would be really interesting wouldn't it...

Q．In my circle of friends, its considered rude to taunt your opponent.
　 And so we treat it as something that shouldn't be used.
　 How should we use them in the future?
A．Yeah, we've gotten a lot of comments regarding taunts/appeals...
　 Its difficult to define how they should be used in the future.
　 If, in a tight battle, there was a way to use them to say "This was a good fight!" without leaving yourself open
　 Or, if we could add the appropriate amount of wit to them, then maybe they'd be more user-friendly.
At least, that's my personal opinion.
　 If there's a big difference in player strength, then a taunt can be taken the wrong way,
　 But this is something individualistic about the characters that we'd like you all to enjoy.
Something like that!

Q．Playing everyday, this is something that's bugged me, but in the anime
when Akuma fights Ryu, what's the name of the multi-air fireball he throws at him?
A．I have no idea! I don't think its been named yet...
　
Q．In Rufus's ending, I laughed to see the two of them walking and enjoying themselves!
　 Then after that, Ryu got a ride from Ken, didn't he? But in the animated movie as well as SFIII,
　 Ryu turns it down and says "I'd rather walk"...
A．Yeah huh... Especially SFIV Ryu, it seems like he'd be all hard on himself, and while in deep thought
　 he'd say something like "I'll go by my own two feet."

Q．As he is the default choice on the character select screen, I've really come to like Abel from all the times
I've had to use him. I'm not winning a lot, but I like his production and lose quote "karada ga...")
　 and really grown to like using him.
A．Heh heh, thank you very much!
　 Though he's often called empty, really he's a character that's fun to use and strong, and he has his own
personality and his lines are cool too. So I'm really happy that you've come to like him!
　 Keep on using him until you master him!

Street Fighter IV Dash: Let your voice be heard!

Street Fighter IV dash, the imminent yet to be announced sequel to this year's best fighting game should be in the works. Ono San and other Capcom emplyees have made it clear that they are listening to us fans and we should let them know what we want in the soon to be announced sequel.

Few Capcom untiy users, including myself, have created some threads asking for some specific additions or modes in SF4 Dash, the most notable one is the "ggpo forsf4 dash" thread weher we are letting Capcom know that GGPO style Netcode is a must for the sf4 sequel. While sf4 is a great game the online is far from perfect especially compared to the awesome lag-free HD Remix netcode.

The second thread is mainly for Street Fighter story lore fanbatics. In it i asked Capcom about adding a detailed story mode a la Blazblue (if you haven't checked that do so immediatly). While some people disagree i believe Street Fighter series has a great stroline outlined however it was never really fleshed out, except for few points and timelines (sf alpha for example).

A story mode (in addition to the normal arcde mode) will give Capcom the opportunity and medium to flesh out all their characters. Aksys did a great job in terms of storytelling and story mode in blazblue.

5 worst things about the legend of Chun-li Movie

We all agree that Street Fighter: The legend of Chun-li movie was a horrible abomination. I personally tied to watch the movie again on blu-ray last week but couldnt go past Chris Klein's first appearance and i had to turn it off as i slowly started feeling my cells killing themselves the more i kept watching it.

But Gamesradar was barver than me! not only they re-watched the sh!tty movie but they even made a list of the 5 worst things about the legend of chun-li.

From the article: :" When you say “Chun-Li,” the fifth thing Street Fighter fans usually think of is that she has gargantuan thighs. The fourth thing is that she’s a martial artist, the third is her blue dress and the second is her hairstyle with its dumpling-like buns. The first thing, however, is that she’s Chinese. Udon announces The Art of Street Fighter artbook

Udon comics is at it again! just in time for Comic con, Udon has announced a new Street Fighter Art book to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Street Fighter Series. The Japanese version of the book was released in Japan last march and was praised for featuring never before seen art as well as including cross over art from titles such as marvel vs capcom and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

From the official press release: "SF20: The Art of Street Fighter gathers over 1,500 illustrations by Capcom’s top artists over the past 20 years. Included are character designs, concept art, rough sketches, game covers, promo artwork, crossover pieces and even some never-before seen artwork from Street Fighter’s past and present. Capcom reveals comic con exclusive TE fight stick and Fight pad

Over at Capcom Unity, Sven revealed what looks to a limited edition of the highly praised Tournament edition fightstick and fight pads for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

There are only 500 made limited fightsticks (250 for ps3 and 250 for 360) and there will be exclusively available this week end at the San Diego Comic con for the price of $179.99 per unit.

In addition to the stick, capcom also revealed that a limited edition for the fightpad will also be on sale at the event for $49.99.

As you can see from the pictures, the differences between the limited and the regular TE sticks are the art and colors as well as the dust cover that is decorated with hadoken motions.

EVO 09 Street Fighter IV finals Video hilights and recap

If you have missed the Awesome Street Fighter IV evo finals yesterday and you are too lazy to watch the whole finals from the video i posted here are a few of the great great matches that were taking place yesterday. Remember pretty much every match was a great must watch game but i will only post the few exceptional ones that caught my attention.

Dan From Japan:

I will start with a new face that most people who are unfamiliar with the Japanese CVS2 scene would not recognize: Dan from Japan (real name Takashi Hukushi) did a spectacular job using Ryu to reach the final eight. Takashi is Daigo's close friend and sparring partner. Check out this video of Dan against Mechanica:

Unfortunately for Takashi, he will go ahead and lose against Sanfor Kelly's amazing Cammy. Some people suggested that a factor that contributed to his lost is the fact that Takashi plays mainly on aracdes and therefore he was unfamiliar of Cammy's SF4 moves and priorities. check out the Takashi vs Sanford vid:

Ed ma:

Ed ma, known for his ruthless Akuma, also put a great show during Evo 09. He was first able to derat Mike Ross and his undestructible Honda in one of the great games of the 5 on 5 exhibition:

Ed ma ended advancing to the finals only to fight against the beast himself, Daigo Umehara. While Ed ma did pull off a great game he was no match for the Japanese beast and SFIV champion:

Juicebox:

Juicebox was one of the best participants at this year's EVO. His Abel is definetly the best i have seen and he did not dissapoint and gave the crowds all the reasons to cheer and scream. Plus it was also funny to see Juicebox doing his Karate chops and katas whenever he lands and Ultra or wins a round. Check out his Semifinasl Match against LLoveu-Joe:

Sanford Kelly and Eduardo Perez:

Bonth Kelly and Perez showed great skills during their matches. Notably the Final match where both these guys faced each other in a great Honda vs Akuma:

Ricky Ortiz and Shady K:

Maybe new to a lot of folks including myself, Ortiz is a veteran of the tournaments scene, and it did not takehim long to prove it with his ruthless Rufus. Ortiz ranked number 8 in the overall tournament, and lost to Shady K's Akuma after a fierce fight:

The Final Match: Daigo vs Wong

In what is considered the greatest game of the whole Evo, Daigo umehara faced Justin Wong (again) in this year's EVO final match. Justin surprised everyone by playing as Balrog, a bold move that shook Daigo in the beggining. Daigo will quickly recover and get used to Justin's technique to ultimately defeat him and wins the title of EVO 09 Street Fighter IV Champion:

Definetly a great match that will be remebered in years to Come. I would sum up this Evo finals hilights by saying that all palyers did a fantastic Job. This evo was full of hype and excitement and was really, in my humble opionion, the best evo tournament ever. The players were skilled the crowd was great and the matchups were insane. Congratulations to all the winners and especially Daigo Umehara for getting another SF4 championship title.

The EVO finals were held yesterady in what appeared to be the most crowded edition of the event. The tournament was full of hype and consisted of great and competitive matches. Both the specators on location and online were at thee dge of their seats in yet what i call the best edition of the EVO champioship. Enough with my excitement that refuses to go away since yesterday, here are the winners for each street fighter tournament:

The EVO 2009 final will kick off starting tomorrow. In them the best of the best will fight to prove their awesomeness, wether they fight for glory, money or revenge, tomorrow will the day when the weak will fall and the powerful shall rise. (talk abt being over dramatic)

anyway, as you all know pople will compete in Street Fighter IV, HD remix and 3rd strike. If you are like me, not able to attend this glorious event, capcom has our back! starting tomorrow there wil be a live feed from the tournmant ground located here and you can be sure not to miss the great games.

Famous players like Justin wong, goutecks will be participating as well as the human SF demon known as Daigo Umehara, so make sure not to miss the EVO finals starting tomorrow and taking place up until sunday.

Udon announces Street Fighter 3 backup stories and maxi series

Street Fighter 3 is without a doubt a great game but also one that does not get much love from other medias (anime, manga, comics) Luckily Udon is about to change that!

Announced in an official press release posted today, Udon comics will start sharing the sf3 love with the next Street Fighter Tubo issue 8 which will include a backup story featuring the fan favourite young ninja Ibuki, followed by another backup story for issue 9 featuring Oro,and issue 10 with a Q backup story. October’s Turbo #9 sheds light on the origins of the mystical hermit Oro. This ancient martial arts master is rumored to be over 140 years old, and journeys the world searching for a student worthy of receiving his teachings. Alan Wang tackles Oro art chores.

Finally, November’s Turbo #10 features a tale about the most mysterious Street Fightercharacter ever – the man known only as Q. Next to nothing is known about this trench coat-clad, metal-masked figure. IS he a ‘he’? Is he even human? Artist Bob Strang brings us one step closer to the truth about Q.

And the Street Fighter III stories don’t end there! Fans can look forward to a full blownStreet Fighter III comic series in early 2010, right after the conclusion of the current Street Fighter II Turbo 12-issue maxi-series.

Street Fighter II Turbo #7 Review

Story: The preliminary rounds have reached their final stage. The last set of qualifiers are held in the obscure Metro City where Characters from both Street Fighter and Final Fight games are about duck it out to see who are the lucky winners that will end up participating in the famous yet to start Street Fighter II tournament.

The issue starts where the last of left of, our heroes including Ryu and Ken are battling each other and against the time as Balrog is setting the whole building to explode within few minutes.
This issue is the first major crossover between the Street Fighter characters and the final fight roster and it did not disappoint. Not only the action was great but seeing Cody fighting poison and and Guile fighting Rolento is a dream come true for the hardcore Capcom fans. The pacing of the Story is really natural and you do not find yourself bored by the excess of action. In fact I would have loved if the fight was longer than what it was.

I you remember my review of Issue 6, I was skeptical on how the battle royal that Balrog has initiated as the final preliminary tournament would work for the Street Fighter universe. And luckily I was proven wrong since this issue is one of the best SF2 Turbo comic book series.
As the Udon tradition has gotten us acquainted, the book also includes a special bonus story at the end featuring the bushinryu master Guy and Maki. The story is short but gives you an idea about the origin of the rivalry between the 2 warriors.

Art: Chamba is the man! I would have never guessed I would ever say this, let alone after only 6 issues. I really hated his style in the first issue but the guy did not cease to amaze me by how fast he is progressing and improving from issue to issue. And now 7 issues down the line and I can safely say Chamba was a great choice to be the lead artist for the 2 turbo series and I am looking forward to see his dynamic art style portraying the sf2 tournament fights.
The back up story is drawn by Eric Vedder and for a new Udon artist he is handeling himself quite nicely. Although there are some questionable images of Guy that make the character look kind of werid I still think Vedder did a good job.

Closing Comment: After it’s 7th issue, the Street Fighter 2 Turbo series is definetly picking up steam. The story is naturally flowing and the art is dynamic and beautiful. The series will soon tackle the SF2 tournament, the most famous event in the Street Fighter universe and fans like me cannot wait to see what udon has in store for us in the next few issues.

The only compaint i have about this issue is that the pages are quite Dark sometimes which makes the action a bit difficult to see. Other than that this one solid issue that deserves a solid score.

Street Fighter IV is indeed the second coming of the street fighter franchise! a recent prove to that is the amazing unprecedentent number of registered competitors that will compete for the EVO Street Fighter IV Tournament.

That's right, the SFIV tournamant will see 1040 players competing for the throne of SFIV EVO champion.

Remember back when the legend of chun-li horrible movie was about to get screened in Japan, Capcom has announced that an exclusive SF anime short featuring Sakura is to be shown after the movie (an effective way to make people sit through that whole abomination of a movie). Now months later the video is finally online.

The anime short is once again produced by studio 4C who did a fantastic job with these anime shorts (ryu, Chun-li, viper and now Sakura) and really captured the spirit of Street Fighter. The video features Sakura, Dan, Blanka, and Zangief (as well as cool picture of Ryu in his alpha days).

SFIV pc Leaked to the net, users already working on texture manips?

The PC version of Street Fighter IV is supposed to be released in 2 days. However few users got their preorderde game a bit early. Not only that, but the game has leaked online over the past two days.

And as you all know, PC games have a history to receive fan made hacks and graphical mods of all kind. A proof that SFIV will be no exception, is the image below, done by a PC user who is aleady experimenting with playing with textures for the sf roster.

While the image shows a melted face sakura and red faced Ryu, it is only a matter of time before we start seeing some cool fan made outfits, like a naked Chun-li for example.........Wait i did not say that, i repeat i did not say that.

Finally! a release date for the PC version of Street Fighter IV has been announced. According to Microsoft SF4 will be release July 7th for the price of $39.99 so that is only one week from now.

The Pc version comes with the extra shader option that is not available on consoles. sven even went ahead and claimed that the PC version is the best port com[pared to the 360 and ps3 version.

Let's hope that this is true as i will be getting the PC version as well.

Make sure that your pc will run SF4 before cashing the money for it by downloading and running the benchmark tool released by Capcom few weeks ago.

stokedgamer.com has 2 videos comparing 2 versions of the PC version of SFIV's benchmark tool, one running at 30 fps and the other at 60 fps. As you will see the game running at 30fps is very unplayable. Therefore you really need a beast of a pc to play the game the way it is supposed to be played, or turn off all the eyecandy settings and then you might be able to run it.
