Udon's Street Fighter II Turbo #4 Advance Review

A new Street Fighter Comic book issue is hitting the stands tomorrow! The comic in question is Street Fighter 2 Turbo #4 which continues on the main street Fighter Storyline where the fighters are making their ways through the preliminary matches. How good is this issue? keep reading to find out (Warning: Minor Spoilers ahead).

Story: Street Fighter 2 Turbo #4 takes place right after the end of issue #3. Fan favorite Chun-li is aout to fight five opponents at the same time in order to get qualified fo the Street Fighter tournament. During the gruesome fight, Chun-li remembers why she has to fight and why winning is her only option to reach her ultimate goal. At the same time Ryu and Ken are training and getting ready to enter the tournament. Cammy also makes an appearance at the end of the issue ending the book with a cliffhanger.

Street Fighter 2 Turbo #4 is definetly an action packed comic! Meaning there is really not a whole lot of story in it. The whole issue consists of Chunli fighting and Ken and Ryu training. The cliffhanger at the end does make up  a bit for the lack of storytelling within the issue, but still, would have preferred the story to have moved a bit more forward.

The book also contains a backup story featuring Street Fighter IV newcomer Rufus. The story while short, is surprisingly very enjoyable and offers the reader some chuckles. Rufus is definetly a funny character that has a lot of potential for comic relief (will he beat Dan in this area? I doubt that)  

The Art: Street Fighter 2 Turbo #4’s main story is of course drawn by Chamba. Chamba  does a good job here portraying the fights and action as usual. Characters are drawn in away during that makes them look and pose like their game's counterparts. You will also notice that Chamba is definetly improving: Chun-li looks more feminine now, in contrast to the way she was drawn in the first issues and the backgrounds are also not as empy as they used to be. Overall, the art the main story is definetly good.

The back-up story is, for the first time, drawn by Chris Stevens. At first, i thought it was Joe Ng who pencilled it, since Stevens art style is very very close to Ng, the characters are very anime like and the backgrounds are full of little details that make the panels eye catching. A job well done by Stevens.

 

Closing Comment:  Street Fighter 2 Turbo #4 is an action packed issue!  The story moves really slowly but the art is good. The fights are very dynamic and catches the spirit of the game. The back up story is very fun to read and almost manages to steal the spotlight of the whole comic.  Turbo #4 is a good issue but definetly not the best from Udon. still a must have if you are a street Fighter fan.
