Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-li lands number 8 in the US box office top ten but performs terribly

Surprised! you should be! The new Street Fighter Movie the legend of chun-li landed number 8 on the US box office's top ten for its opening week-end.

The movie received terrible reviews, from both Street Fighter fans and the media. Even though it did make the US box office top ten list, the legend of Chun-li grossed only a mere 4.6 Million which is a very low number for a movie to make in its openning week-end.

Is the movie really this bad? Check back tomorrow for The SF blog review since i will be watching the movie in approximately 1 hour.

ps: wish me luck that i dont kill myself or take out my own eyes with my bare hands!

This movie was only released in 1136 theatres, Hard to do blockbuster numbers on a limited release like that.

Compared to the original SF movie, it did about the same (when you take into account the number of theatres that one was released to: 1671)

It actually did more than it was projected to do.

It was projected to make 1.4million Friday night and it made 1.7million Friday night, it was projected to make 4.1 million overall this weekend and it made 4.7 million this weekend.

So was it that bad? Clearly not bad enough since it did more than what it was projected to do.

The big flop this weekend was the Jonas Brother film which was supposed to make 30million this weekend and it only made back 12million.

Actually the first SF film was released in 1,738 theaters, that's 602 more theaters than this film.

This film averaged about $4,000 for each theater, so imagine if it released in the same amount of theaters.

It would had made over 7million. It sucks that FOX didn't have more faith in the film to release it in at least 2,000 theaters. Also they did an awful job promoting it.. hardly showed the trailer in the theaters and hardly showed tv spots for it.

Yet it managed to do more than what it was projected to do, that right there is amazing!

I've seen it and fan service is pretty low (although cudos for that spoiler character near the end). If anything, it's kind of slow-paced and does not have as much Street Fighting as one would expect. I compare the Vega vs. Chun Li fight in the film to Spider-man 3 with Spidey and Venom. Overall a "D" for decent

OK, why is this film proud of being #8? Does anyone get pride out of being #8 in a top 10 poll? Speaking if the film is doing well... This crap costed 60 million to make and right now its made 4.6, next week Watchmen comes out to theatres next friday. This film wont get higher then 10 million.

It took 40 million to make, not 60 million.

Don't believe everything you read on Wiki.

They could have done so much with this movie. Another missed opportunity...

So much for taking the "Batman Begins" realistic approach on Street Fighter.

I wonder how else they can screw up a Street Fighter movie? We've had lighthearted action and dark seriousness and both failed miserably. A romantic comedy?

Here there Mr. Anonymous it dont matter if they made the film for 40,60, or 80 million. The point is the film wont break even with a reception like that. And next time you want to correct someone state your sources too. Wiki might be wrong or depending on where you got 40 million from you can be wrong too.
