30fps vs 60fps: The Benchmark tool verdict

stokedgamer.com has 2 videos comparing 2 versions of the PC version of SFIV's benchmark tool, one running at 30 fps and the other at 60 fps. As you will see the game running at 30fps is very unplayable. Therefore you really need a beast of a pc to play the game the way it is supposed to be played, or turn off all the eyecandy settings and then you might be able to run it.

Check the vids out below and let us know what you think:

Wow, just wow. This post is so full of ignorance it's astonishing:

- That's not SF4 PC, that's the benchmark tool.
- Benchmark tools run a fixed amount of frames at the maximum speed they can (unless you cap them).
- Real games don't use a fixed amount of frames, just render as many frames as possible and skip the ones they can't.

Assuming SF4 on PC at 30 fps is going to be like that is just uninformed bullshit.

Well I almost agree with the sir above, however if I remember well in the benchmark tool is possible to remove the option of «fixed frames», so...

Instead I think there are some problem of performance optimization in SF4, because it’s unbelieveable that a game like this with all the effects turned off it’s still _so_ slow. I don’t know perhaps it depends on the kind of used engine and the game speed must be ensured in order to avoid execution problems during the gameplay (and we all know SF is a very fast game where the control and speed are everything!). But this is only a my guess, maybe if there was a way to know better the characteristics of the engine...

Oh well... I guess I have to change my PC anyway...

Watching the 30 frames video is like watching a fight in slow motion.

This is kinda annoying, even with people saying "oh I got 57 fps, my comp is fine to run the game". This is where the PC version is gonna fall down. The game NEEDS 60 fps. How can you hit 1 frame links when there isnt even the right amount of frames being displayed?

PC version will be great playing with two people who know the game and know you need 60fps, but online is going to totally fail because you'll go up against people who are running on crap pc's

I have the game. The settings I run on give me a D in the benchmark (avg 38 fps) - but the game runs smooth as butter.

The benchmark renders all frames to figure out your performance - in the real game you can set it to 'fixed framerate' and it'll play at the correct speed dropping frames where required. Anything over 30 fps will look smooth.

If you want to play Street Fighter properly, you cant drop frames!

You cant play it at "anything over 30fps", you need 60!!! How can you do 1 frame links if those frames arent even there? :s
