SF blog Exclusive: Udon's Street Fighter IV #1 Comic advance Review

Udon comics, very known for the best rendition of the Street Fighter mythos, will be releasing a brand new Street Fighter comic tomorrow. The comic in question is the first issue of a new Street Fighter IV mini series, that works as both an ongoing saga in the Udon Street Fighter universe as well as a prequel to the official Street Fighter IV game storyline.

I present to you dear readers, the exclusive advance review of Street Fighter IV #1 hitting stores February 18th. (Warning: minor spoilers ahead)

The Story: The Story of the first issue focuses on both Crimson Viper and Abel. Through the comic we get to know who Viper is, what are her true motives and how did she get to be part of S.I.N, the evil organization that is running the show within the Street Fighter IV story. We also get introduced to Abel, an amnesic fighter who goes looking for Shadaloo and S.I.N to learn about his mysterious past. The story ends by introducing the big boss of Street Fighter IV Mr Fifeteen (you have to read the comic or finish the game to know who Mr Fifeteen is wink wink ain’t spoiling that)

Overall the story for the first issue is very captivating and adds to the hype the Street Fighter IV game is already generating, with a story that both fits within the Udon universe as well as the Game’s storyline, Street Fighter IV #1 offers a rich story that ends with a cliffhanger.

The Art: Street Fighter IV #1 is drawn by Joe Ng, the same artist doing the excellent Street Fighter IV backup stories included within the Street Fighter 2 Turbo comics. So it is no surprise that Joe Ng really delivers again, the Characters are beautifully drawn, the action is very dynamic, and the backgrounds are just stunning.

Another area that Joe Ng is also mastering is the rendition of the game special moves. Whether it’s viper doing her burning kicks or Abel performing his super on poor Birdie, the moves looks like they just popped up right from the game screen.

If you have been reading my past Udon comics reviews, you will notice how much I appreciate Joe Ng’s style, and to tell you the truth, Street Fighter IV #1 is giving me a reason to put Joe Ng on top of my favorite Udon’s Street Fighter artists.

Closing Comment: The Street Fighter IV comic series is a welcomed mini series to the world of Udon’s Street Fighter comics, and with a good paced and intriguing storyline by Ken sui Chong and awesome art by Joe Ng, Street Fighter IV #1 is a MUST buy for any Street Fighter fan.

Final Score: 10/10 (A Must Have)
