David Sirlin tells where he thinks Street Fighter IV misses

David Sirlin, the main person behind the rebalancing of Super Street Fighter II  Turbo HD Remix, states the problems he thins Street Fighter IV is suffering from.

From the article: "Next is the 2-button throw, a bad idea in fighting games with 2D gameplay. 3D Fighting games are different beasts, so they are excused here, but note that even Dead or Alive offers a macro to turn its 2 button throw into a 1 button throw...and maps that macro to a face button by default. Anyway, 2 button throws solve a non-problem that no one has ever actually had. That's the problem of accidentally throwing and being sad about it. Street Fighter 2, Guilty Gear series, and Street Fighter Alpha 2 all demonstrated that 1 button throws work just fine and don't actually create any problems. Adding a second button press just adds complexity where it's not necessary, and helps nothing.  "

Sounds as though he's upset, lmao... I guess he isn't as good at Street Fighter IV as he is at Street Fighter II without his easily performed cheap throws.

Just remember this... All of these complaints..... and he wanted to make a SFIV with a REWIND FUNCTION

That was Backbone and not Sirlin, as far as I can recall. Sirlin was hired by Backbone as a contractor and I don't think was involved with the terrible, terrible SFIV design.

But I could be wrong.

awesome game, very addictive, so much fun!

Sirlin is going to have a lot of people calling him jealous because of this article.

Personally, I agree with him. It's a fun game but not one I would call SFIV.

F+HP/HK/MP
where retarded and cheap. They create Tick throws, which is why adding another button was a nice feature.

David Sirlin is just an old school SF. No matter what other street fighter is created, he will always be with the old school version.

SF4 is an amazing game. I had some doubts about the game, but once I played and owned it, I must say its better than I thought.

i don't like the two button throws either, but I didn't like it since well before street fighter 4

Well now that the truth is out... Sirlin's actually been upset about SF4 for a really long time. We actually talked about it at EVO last year. Oh well... Both STHD and SF4 rock anyway!!

the cheap throws were the worst thing about street fighter 2. it's supposed to be a fighting game. not a bad judo simulator.

He makes some very valid points, two button throws suck and always have, now there is too much thinking involved in throwing a person and is no longer natural.

JEALOUSY! That's all you can get from this critique. I'm sure people can bash the rebalancing of HD Remix just as hard as Street Fighter IV.

Actually I read the article and he says a lot of stuff I agree with. Hopefully there will be some updates to the game itself. I mean what street fighter hasn't had updates within the series? Street Fighter 2 had championship, turbo, super, Street Fighter 3 had second impact and third strike. I think for as much as they were trying to avoid creating something that only experts can use at a high level, they have not.

i prefer the two button throw in if you feel its too complex maybe your too simple(slow) lol

why would you stop reading the article do opinions you don't agree with offend you or something?

only idea of his i like was the online one where your opponent doesnt see who u pik n no host bootin in rank .... to me he should stik to guilty gear or 3d fighters or sf2

Maybe for ranking matches it would be nice to have some fixture list option. As an option :-) But i definately want to be able to choose the rival like it can be done on 2dfighter.com.
And i don't like the whole mood of the article. Sometimes it's good to critisize. But this guy critisizes a little more than one should: recovery time, 2-buttons throw, etc.

throws are cheap. i hate when dudes cheese and throw all day. i think it's better with two buttons. i'd rather get beat by some nice combos rather than get thrown around.
